Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. They moved to Oxfordshire when she was five and enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor when she was six. Through the years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the age of ten she was performing and taking part in many Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after the eight auditions that she'd been selected for the parts. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance in a film was in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. This film was 2001's highest grossing film, breaking records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. Critics have praised both the film as well as the performance of the three principal young actors. The widely distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma's performance was nominated and later won awards for the film.
